On 7 March 2017, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana H.E. Mdm. Sun Baohong paid a call on Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the new Majority Leader of Parliament and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs of Ghana. The two sides exchanged views on China-Ghana relations and cooperation. The Political Counsellor of the Embassy Mr. Jiang Zhouteng attended the meeting.
Congratulating Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu on his assumption of office, Ambassador Sun said that China and Ghana enjoy deep traditional friendship and fruitful cooperation on all fronts. The Chinese side attaches great importance to China-Ghana relations and is ready to support the development initiatives of the new government of Ghana, properly solve the problems, and push bilateral relations a notch higher. Ambassador Sun urged the Ghanaian side to set up a clear cooperation framework with China, identify key areas and projects in cooperation and expressed the willingness of the Chinese side to dock strategies of development with Ghana to accelerate certain cooperation for early harvest. Ambassador Sun also said that the Parliament of Ghana has made important contribution to the development of China-Ghana relations. The Chinese side wishes to strengthen people-to people exchanges between the legislatures of the two countries and provide more training opportunities to the Parliament of Ghana.
Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu warmly welcomed Amb. Sun’s visit to the Parliament, extended his gratitude to China’s long-term support to the development of Ghana, and joyfully recalled his visit to China last year. Hon. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu said that the Akufo-Addo administration is committed to developing economy, creating jobs and improving people’s livelihoods and needs China’s help. The two sides should further strengthen mutual understandings, conduct close cooperation on agriculture, industry, mining and railway sectors etc., and bring about a better future for China-Ghana relations. The Parliament of Ghana is willing to make unremitting efforts to expand and deepen Ghana-China relations.
