Chinese Embassy in Ghana Held the 68th National Day Reception

On September 29th, 2017, the Chinese Embassy in Ghana held National Day Reception at the Ambassador’s residence to celebrate the 68th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. More than 400 people including the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the Second Lady H.E.Samira Bawumia, Minister for Trade and Industry, Hon. Alan John Kyerematen, Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Otiko Afisa Djaba, Minister for Special Development Initiatives, Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson, Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, Hon. Robert Ahomka-Lindsey, Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, Hon. Freda Prempeh, Deputy Minister for Aviation, Hon. Kwabena Darko- Mensah, President of the National House of Chiefs, Hon. Togbe Afede XIV, the Chief of Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces Lt. General Obed Boamah Akwa, as well as other senior governmental officials, Members of Parliament, traditional leaders, heads of diplomatic missions, representatives of Chinese enterprises and overseas Chinese community attended the Reception. Ambassador Sun Baohong and Hon. Minister Alan Kyerematen addressed the Reception.

During her remarks, Ambassador Sun, on behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Ghana, extended her sincere greetings and best wishes to people of all walks of life who have long endeavored to promote China-Ghana friendship. Ambassador Sun highlighted that since 2016, under the strong leadership of the Central Committee of Communist Party of China(CPC) with Comrade Xi Jinping as the core, China has made great progress in promoting all-round economic, political, cultural, social and ecological progress, and the coordinated the Four-Pronged Comprehensive Strategy, and implementing the five development concepts of innovation, coordination, green development, opening up and sharing. Ambassador Sun pointed out that China is accelerating the transformation of governmental functions, advancing in supply-side structural reformation, improving and upgrading the economic structure, and the stable performance with good momentum for growth of China's economy has been constantly consolidated. In the first half of this year, China’s economy grew by 6.9%, the best in the major economies, contributing more than 30% to the world’s economic growth. In the second half of this year, China’s economy will continue to maintain a steady and good condition. We are confident to maintain the economic growth at medium-high speed and drive the economy towards medium-high end. At the same time, we comprehensively push forward the major-country diplomacy with Chinese features and creatively put forward a series of new vision, new thinking and new strategy which form and establish General Secretary Xi Jinping's thoughts on diplomacy.

Ambassador Sun expressed that since the establishment of the diplomatic ties between China and Ghana 57 years ago, the traditional friendship between China and Ghana has been unceasingly consolidated and cooperation between the two sides in various fields have also flourished. Since the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government assumed office in January this year, H.E. President Akufo-Addo has firmly embraced the friendly policy towards China and is committed to building a stronger Ghana-China relationship. The political mutual trust between the two countries has been continuously consolidated. Exchanges and cooperation in various fields have achieved fruitful results. Under the new situation, China and Ghana should take advantage of the fast developing momentum of China-Africa cooperation, explore new areas and modes for cooperation focusing on production capacity, equipment manufacturing and infrastructure, accelerate the connectivity of our development strategies with the aim of complementing each other's advantages, enhancing quality and efficiency of cooperation and promoting the transformation and upgrading of China-Ghana cooperation in various areas.

Ambassador Sun stressed that the 19th National Congress of CPC will be held in Beijing soon. This Congress is of vital importance in the process of accomplishing building a moderately prosperous society and the key phase in the development of socialism with Chinese characteristics. China will stand on the new starting point of history, stay true to the mission taken up by the CPC 95 years ago, forge ahead into the future and work with unremitting efforts to achieve the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Minister for Trade and Industry, Hon. Alan Kyerematen, on behalf of the Republic of Ghana, President Akufo-Addo, the government and the people of Ghana warmly congratulates President Xi Jinping, the Chinese government and the Chinese people on the 68th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and wishes the 19th National Congress of CPC a complete success. He said that, Ghana is one of the earliest African countries to establish diplomatic relations with China, and the leaders of the two countries attach great importance to the development of the bilateral relationship. Presently, China is Ghana’s largest investor and Ghana is China’s sixth largest trading partner in Africa. China- Ghana economic and trade cooperation and people to people exchanges have developed rapidly, bringing tangible benefits to peoples of both countries. China has provided important support for Ghana in energy, education, transportation, infrastructure etc. The Government and the people of Ghana express their deep gratitude to China. Ghana views China-Ghana relations from a strategic perspective and will further strengthen bilateral cooperation within the framework of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. Ghana hopes that the Chinese leaders will visit Ghana at an early date and the Chinese government will support the “One District, One Factory” plan put forward by the Ghanaian Government. Ghana warmly welcomes the Chinese enterprises to invest in Ghana to promote Ghana’s economic transformation.

The Reception was overwhelmed by warm and joyful atmosphere. There displayed, at the venue, a picture exhibition on China-Ghana Traditional Friendship and Latest Pragmatic Cooperation Achievements and a special supplement on China National Day published by the Business and Financial Times, a leading Ghanaian newspaper. The Vice-President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. Dr. Bawumia and the Second Lady, accompanied by H.E. Ambassador Sun Baohong, watched the picture exhibition with great interest. The hosts and guests proposed toasts to China's prosperity and strength, and to the lasting friendship of China and Ghana.
