GHACHIFA Holds Evening on China

On October 21st, 2005, the Ghana-China Friendship Association held "An Evening on China: The Ghana Dimension" in Accra. The function was well attended.

On behalf of H. E. Amb. Zhang Keyuan, Mr. Wang Jinghua, Charge d'Affaires of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China extended warm congratulations to GHACHIFA for launching the program, observing that GHACHIFA was playing an increasingly important part in promoting the mutual understanding and friendship between the peoples of the two countries. The Charge d'Affaires stated: "China places high premium on nongovernmental exchanges. The Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries has established relations of friendship and cooperation with more 500 organizations and NGOs in more than 130 countries of the world including GHACHIFA, an achievement that has greatly boosted the friendship between Chinese people and people in other countries." He pointed out: "The development of China will not only benefit the Chinese people, but also generate tremendous business opportunities and market potentials for the world; committed to equality, friendship, mutual benefit and win-win cooperation with all countries, China will proceed along the path of peaceful development to achieve a peaceful, open and cooperative development."

H. E. Kojo Amoo-Gottfried, President of GHACHIFA and former ambassador to China recalled the development of GHACHIFA and underscored the support that China had given to Ghana since its independence. Citing verses from a classical Chinese poem which goes "… friendship defies distance thousand of miles apart as friends are, still neighbours in each other's heart", the President said: "We believe that even though we are geographically far from each other the friendship and cooperation between our two Countries and peoples have always been long lasting in the long history." He remarked: "Hegemonism and power politics still exist and developing countries are still faced with the arduous task of safeguarding their sovereignty, security and interests."

Mr. John Kuleke, Director of International Organization and Conference Bureau of the Foreign Affairs Ministry, gave a warm plaudit to the complete success of the Shenzhou-6 manned spaceship flight.

Participants watched a TV documentary on Chinese culture with great interest and conducted enthusiastic interactions.
