Ghana National Theatre Renovated

Renovation on the Ghana National Theatre in Accra will be finished at the end of the year and it will bring a brighter and better place for the country's cultural life in the coming years.

This was disclosed when the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, H. E. Mr. Zhang Keyuan, inspected the site on December 5th. His tour was accompanied by the contractor, China National Complete Plant Export Corporation.

The ambassador toured the refurnished auditorium, the overhauled stage, central air conditioning system and other accessorial sites. After hearing the introduction of the new equipments, materials and techniques adopted in the project, he commended the first-rate work the contractor had done for Ghana. He said he was impressed by the new appearance of the theatre on the occasion of the coming Christmas.

The overhaul project, which was commenced in March 2005, aims at restoring and improving the out-of-date conditions. All the materials and expenditure of the project costed $2.5 million were funded by the Government of the People's Republic of China.

The Ghana National Theatre, went into construction in 1990 by funds from the Chinese Government, was commissioned at the end of 1992. Since then it witnessed many international shows, as well as the numerous local performances. Its architecture has also made it one of the landmarks of the capital city.
