At the invitation of H.E. John Agyekum Kufuor, President of the Republic of Ghana, Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council of the People's Republic of China will pay an official visit to Ghana from 18th to 19th of June, 2006. The official group consists of ministers of foreign affairs, agriculture, commerce, public health and other officials of the Chinese Government. The visit will be the first in 42 years since the late Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai visited Ghana in 1964. The Premier will hold talks with President Kufuor on bilateral as well as international issues where our two nation's interest involves. Premier Wen and President Kufuor will witness the signing of several new bilateral agreements on economic and technological cooperation between China and Ghana. Both leaders will also attend the hand-over and commissioning ceremony of Ofankor-Nsawam road which has been renovated to a dual-carriage highway with an interest-free loan by the Government of the People's Republic. The sod-cutting ceremony of this project was held two years ago by President Kufuor and the Chinese Ambassador, H.E. Mr. Zhang Keyuan. Ghana is one of the first Sub-Saharan countries that established diplomatic relations with China and both nations have enjoyed friendly relations since then. The Embassy of China believes that the incoming visit by Premier Wen Jiabao will further enhance the close ties which have existed for a long time between our two great nations. |
