H. E. Ambassador Zhang Keyuan to Ghana pays farewell calls on ministers

H. E. Zhang Keyuan, the departing Ambassador of China paid farewell calls on the ministers of Ghana from May 4th to 18th, 2007. Mr. Zhang expressed his appreciation to the ministers for their support during his tenure, and their contribution to the Sino-Ghana cooperation in all fields. Zhang also expressed his wish that the ministers would continue to support his successor's work to further consolidate the bilateral relations between China and Ghana.

 

The ministers expressed their appreciation for the efforts that Zhang has made during his 4-year tenure to strengthen the bilateral relations.

 

They also lauded the cancellation of debt totaling about $25 million and appreciated that Chinese government supported in the implementation of the National Communication Backbone and the E-government Project for which a concessionary loan of $30 million was approved last year.

 

Major Courage Quashigah (Rtd.), Minister of Health, welcomed the decision that a Chinese medical team will come to Ghana soon and said that Chinese are the friends in need.

 

Mr. Hackman Owusu-Agyeman, Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing said the Chinese people stand with Ghanaian people when the Ghanaians strive for their economic independence.

 

Mr. Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, Minister of Tourism and Diaspora, expressed his appreciation for the memo signed, which designated Ghana as destination for Chinese tourist groups, and hope to develop Ghanaian tourist sites to attract more Chinese tourists to Ghana. 

 

The Finance Ministers, Mr. Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu, expressed his hope a loan agreement for the Bui Dam would be reached so that the project could start in June which would help solve the power shortage in the long run.
