| Reception held for students awarded Chinese scholarships | |||||||

H.E. Ambassador Yu Wenzhe hosted a reception for the 34 students who have been awarded the Chinese Government Scholarships for 2008/2009 academic year in the Chinese Embassy on 21st, August 2008. The 34 students, their family members, representatives from the National Scholarship Secretariat, Ghana-China Friendship Association, related Ministries and media houses attended the function.
In his remarks, Ambassador Yu expressed his congratulations on the students who are going to China for their study tours. Being devoted to supporting Ghana in educational development, China has continuously increased the scholarships to the Ghanaian students in recent years. H.E. Amb. Yu said the Chinese government valued the educational scholarships as means of boosting friendship between the two countries and urged the students to study hard and pass on the knowledge acquired for the benefit of the country. He wished the students good health and happy life while studying in China. He said China was also helping the University of Ghana in making Chinese language attractive to students of the university.
Mr Felix Lansah, Registrar of the National Scholarship Secretariat, conveyed the appreciations of the Ghanaian Scholarship Authority to the Chinese side for its kind assistance in the field of education. He asked the beneficiaries to be worthy ambassadors by applying themselves diligently to their studies and exhibiting the highest sense of discipline. He said Ghana, as a country hoping to become a middle income country by 2015, would always take the opportunity to learn the values and work ethics of China. Mr Samuel Owusu, a student, on behalf of his colleagues thanked the Chinese government and said the opportunity would enrich their experience both academically and culturally. He pledged to devote themselves diligently to the studies in China and contribute to bring the two countries closer.
