Chinese Ambassador to Ghana H.E. Mdm. Sun Baohong Held Media Briefing of the Johannesburg Summit of Forum on China Africa Cooperation

On 21st December 2015, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana H.E. Mdm. Sun Baohong held media briefing of the Johannesburg Summit of Forum on China Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) at her residence. Correspondents from 9 Ghanaian media such as Ghana News Agency, GTV, Metro TV, Daily Graphic, the Ghanaian Times, Daily Guide, Business & Financial Times, Ghana Web attended the media briefing.

Ambassador Sun introduced the background and outcome of the Johannesburg Summit of FOCAC, mainly focused on the new ideas, new concept, new policy and new initiatives of China to develop its relations with Africa, and systematically elaborated the "One Upgrade", "Five Pillars" and "Ten Cooperation Plan" of China-Africa relations through horizontal analysis and vertical comparison of all previous FOCAC meetings' outcomes.

Ambassador Sun said, this year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of China-Ghana diplomatic relations. China-Ghana bilateral cooperation flourishes and achieves fruitful results in various fields. H.E. Chinese President Xi Jinping held a successful bilateral meeting with H.E. President John Dramani Mahama on the sideline of the Johannesburg Summit of FOCAC. The two leaders had a frank and fruitful discussion and reached strategic consensus on stepping up cooperation in various fields. She also briefed on the anti-AIDS advocacy campaign jointly attended by H.E. Prof. Peng Liyuan, First Lady of China and H.E. Madame Lordina Mahama, First Lady of Ghana. She hoped that Ghanaian correspondents could continue to report China in an objective and fair manner, tell good stories about China-Ghana cooperation to inject positive energy into the already cordial bilateral relations.

    In Q&A session, correspondents raised more than 10 questions such as "How could Ghana benefit from China's aid to Africa", "How to realize mutual benefit and win-win cooperation between China and Ghana", "How to implement the African SMEs loan", "How the FOCAC mechanism can positively impact on people-to-people and cultural exchanges between China and Ghana" and so on. Ambassador Sun used detailed data and vivid examples to answer the questions one by one. The correspondents pointed out that Ambassador Sun's briefing gives them full confidence of the future of China-Ghana relations, and hoped the Ghanaian government could actively promote aligning of China's development strategy and international production capacity cooperation with its own development strategies and priorities, and work with the Chinese government to fully implement outcomes of the Johannesburg Summit of FOCAC.
