Chinese Ambassador to Ghana H.E. Mdm. Sun Baohong Attended the Handover Ceremony of the Awutu Senya D/A Junior High School Extension Project in the Central Region

     On 23 December 2015, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana H.E. Mdm. Sun Baohong attended the handover ceremony of the Awutu Senya D/A Junior High School extension project in the Central Region, which is aided by the Chinese government. Nearly 300 people including Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of the Republic of Ghana Hon. Hanna Tetteh, representatives of the project contractor-China Qingjian International Ghana Development Company, Chief Executive for Awutu-Senya District, officials from local government, local traditional leaders, teachers, students and residents from local community attended the ceremony.
In her speech, Ambassador Sun reviewed the series of activities held this year to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the establishment of China-Ghana diplomatic relations and the fruitful outcomes of bilateral cooperation in various fields. She introduced the new ideas, new concept, new policy and new initiatives raised by China on the Johannesburg Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) to develop its relations with Africa, and pointed out that this year is another year of harvest for China-Ghana relations. The successful bilateral meeting between two heads of state on the sideline of the FOCAC Johannesburg Summit outlined the new direction for the development of China-Ghana relations and future cooperation. She hoped that the two countries would work together to further strengthen cooperation, implement the fruitful outcomes of the Johannesburg Summit of FOCAC and the bilateral meeting between the two heads of state, to upgrade China-Ghana relations to a new height. Ambassador Sun also encouraged students to make full use of the modern educational facilities, work hard to increase their knowledge and ability and become successors of China-Ghana friendship.
Foreign Minister Hon. Hanna Tetteh spoke highly of Africa-China and Ghana-China traditional friendship. The completion of Awutu Senya D/A Junior High School extension project is another proof of China's aid catering for the needs of Africa as well as a vivid embodiment of implementing the consensus of the two heads of state reached at the bilateral meeting. The new school building with high quality standards of construction and modern facilities will greatly benefit the students and residents of local community, make important contributions to the local education development, and set a new benchmark for construction of educational facilities in the region. On behalf of the local government and people, she expressed the heartfelt gratitude to the Chinese government, and officially named the extension project as China-Awutu Modern High School.
Local chiefs accorded Ambassador Sun the highest level of welcome and awarded Honorary Title- Development Queen, Mother for Awutu Traditional Area to her. The school teachers, students and community people were singing and dancing with happy laughters and cheerful voices. Accompanied by local paramount chief and District Chief Executive, Ambassador Sun cut the ribbon and unveiled the nameplate to inaugurate the school. Ambassador Sun also inspected the facilities, had a cordial conversation with the students, and warmly interacted with local people.
