Chinese Ambassador to Ghana H.E. Mdm. Sun Baohong Attended the Inauguration of the Confucius Institute at the University of Cape Coast

        On June 2nd 2016, at the invitation of the University of Cape Coast(UCC), Chinese Ambassador to Ghana H.E. Mdm. Sun Baohong attended the inauguration of the Confucius Institute at UCC and delivered a speech. Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts of Ghana Hon. Elizabeth Ofusu- Agyare, Vice-Chancellor of UCC Professor D.D. Kuupole, Principal of Hunan City University Professor Li Jianqi, Chinese Director Professor Hu Liang Cai and Ghanaian Director Professor Kwadwo Opoku - Agyeman of the Confucius Institute at UCC, officials from Department of Education of Hunan, representatives of relevant government departments and high school students of Cape Coast and other representatives totaling over 400 people attended.

        In her speech, Ambassador Sun briefed the attendees on the fruitful achievement of cultural exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in recent years, and indicated that the Confucius Institute of UCC was established at the right time, which will further deepen and promote bilateral exchanges and cooperation in the field of education and culture as well as provide strong support for the economic and trade cooperation between the two countries. Ambassador Sun hopes the Confucius Institute at UCC will concentrate on teaching Chinese culture and innovating management philosophy, and cultivate more Chinese proficiency talents to contribute to the cause of China-Ghana friendship.

        Hon. Minister Agyare fully affirmed that the Confucius Institute being a bridge in the area of linguistics and cultural exchanges between China and the world will set up an important platform for the Ghanaian to learn Chinese language and culture, and enhance mutual understanding. She also wished that friendship between the two countries would last forever.

        In his speech, Vice Chancellor of UCC Professor Kuupole described UCC’s educational advantages in infrastructure and other areas of academic research, expressed that the establishment of the Confucius Institute will become an important platform for the linguistic and cultural education of UCC, promote cultural exchanges and integration between the two countries, broaden the horizons of the Ghanaian people, thus benefit the Ghanaian and whole African people.

        Ambassador Sun witnessed the Hunan City University and University of Cape Coast signed intercollegiate MOU, and jointly inaugurated the Confucius Institute with the Vice Chancellor of UCC Professor Kuupole.

        In the warm and cheerful atmosphere, students from Chinese elective courses of UCC sang "My Chinese Heart", "We are Family" and other Chinese songs, winning waves of applause.
