Chinese Ambassador to Ghana H.E. Mdm. Sun Baohong Attended the Handover Ceremony of Phase Two of the Extension Project of China-Awutu Model High School

On 14 September 2016, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana H.E. Mdm. Sun Baohong attended the handover ceremony of phase Ⅱ of the extension project of China-Awutu Model High School, which is aided by the Chinese government. Nearly 800 people including Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Hon. Hanna Tetteh, representatives of the project contractor- China Qingjian International Ghana Development Company, Chief Executive of the Awutu-Senya District, officials from local government, local traditional leaders, teachers, students as well as residents from local communities attended the ceremony.

In her address, Ambassador Sun Baohong recalled the fruitful achievements of China-Ghana cooperation on education, among other sectors, indicated that China will never forget where it comes from, always stand with African friends and help them within its capacity. The handover of the 2nd phase of the extension project of China-Awutu Model High School fully demonstrates the friendship between China and Ghana. Ambassador Sun encouraged the students to study hard and make contributions to the development of Ghana and China-Ghana friendship when they grow up.

Hon. Hanan Tetteh delivered a warm speech, in which she said, with the help of the Chinese government, the Awutu Senya D/A Junior High School (now called China-Awutu Model High School) has been completely transformed into a renowned model school. It also sets a new benchmark for the construction of educational infrastructure in this district. Hon. Hanna Tetteh said that the Awutu Senya District, endowed with with abundant natural resources and convenient transportation, plans to set up an industrial area. The Ghanaian side hopes that the Chinese side can continue to keep interest on the development of this district, bring in more investment and create more jobs so as to help the district to realize economic transformation.

Afterwards, Ambassador Sun, together with Hon. Hanna Tetteh, cut the ribbons for the inauguration of the 2nd phase of the extension project, donated school bags and other stationary to the students, and inspected the project. During the event, the teaches, students and local residents were drumming and dancing, making a warm atmosphere.

The 1st and 2nd phase of the extension project of China-Awutu Model High School was aided by the Chinese government. In the second phase, the iron fences outside the windows of the classrooms were installed and a grass playground was built.

Before the handover ceremony, Ambassador Sun donated some office appliance to the office of the Chief Executive of the Awutu-Senya District to support its capacity building.
