Chinese Ambassador to Ghana H.E. Mdm. Sun Baohong visited the Ashanti Region (Ⅰ)

Chinese Ambassador to Ghana H.E. Mdm. Sun Baohong paid a 3-day visit to the Ashanti Region on 16-18 February 2017. On 16 February, Ambassador Sun met with Prof. Kwasi Obiri-Danso, the new Vice Chancellor of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

Ambassador Sun congratulated Prof. Obiri-Danso on his assumption of office and gave a brief introduction of China-Ghana cooperation on education. Ambassador Sun said that the new Ghanaian government attaches great importance to education and puts forward a series of talent strategies to support the industrialization and economic transformation of Ghana. During this process, the higher institutions in Ghana are shouldering a heavy responsibility. The Chinese side is willing to strengthen cooperation with the higher institutions in Ghana such as KNUST to support Ghana’s talent strategies and development cause.

Warmly welcoming the visit of Ambassador Sun, Prof. Kwasi Obiri-Danso said that China-Ghana relations have maintained the sound momentum of development and KNUST has benefited a lot from China-Ghana cooperation. Prof. Kwasi Obiri-Danso recalled that he has visited China and Chinese higher institutions for several times and left a deep impression. KNUST has also established cooperation with Tsinghua University, Hohai University, and Chengdu University of Electronic Science and Technology. Prof. Kwasi Obiri-Danso also hoped that the Chinese side could continue to support KNUST in fields of infrastructure, personnel training, student internship and establishment of Confucius Institute in KNUST to promote the development of Ghana’s education sector.
