CHINESE AMBASSADOR TO GHANA, H.E. SHI TING WANG ATTENDS THE COMMEMORATION OF THE 57TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SIGNING OF THE TREATY OF FRIENDSHIP BETWEEN THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA AND THE REPUBLIC OF GHANA

On August 18, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Shi Ting Wang attended the commemoration of the 57th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Friendship between China and Ghana. More than 200 people including the President of the Ghana-China Friendship Association (GHACHIFA), Ambassador Kojo Amoo-Gottfried, former Ghanaian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration and former President of ECOWAS Hon. Victor Gbeho, former Ghanaian ambassador to China, Mr. Anani Okuminyi Demuyakor, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the Ghana Immigration Service, the Ghana Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Chinese companies and overseas Chinese attended the event.

Ambassador Wang said that China and Ghana enjoy a long history of traditional friendship. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties 58 years ago, the political mutual trust between the two countries has been continuously improved, economic and trade cooperation has achieved remarkable results, and people-to-people exchanges have continued to be warm. China is willing to make joint efforts with Ghana to continuously consolidate traditional friendship and create a better tomorrow for bilateral relations.

Ambassador Wang pointed out that the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) will be held in September this year. The summit will connect the co-building of the Belt and Road initiative between China and Africa, the 2030 UN Agenda for Sustainable Development, the 2063 Agenda of AU with the development strategies of African countries, roll out new strategies and new initiatives to strengthen all-round cooperation between China and Africa, and create new opportunities and new horizons for the development of China-Africa comprehensive strategic partnership. The Beijing Summit will surely become a new milestone in the development of China-Africa relations. The President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. Nana Addo Danquah Akufo- Addo has been invited to attend the Beijing Summit. The leaders of the two countries will conduct in-depth exchanges on bilateral relations and international and regional issues of common concern, point out the development direction of bilateral relations and promote the relationship between the two countries to a higher level.

The president of the Ghana-China Friendship Association (GHACHIFA) and former Ghanaian ambassador to China, Ambassador Kojo Amoo-Gottfried said in his speech that since Ghana gained independence, China has provided selfless support and assistance to Ghana’s economic and social development, making tremendous contributions to the development of Ghana. The economic, trade and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries have developed rapidly and become a model for South-South cooperation. Ghana fully supports the Belt and Road initiative. President Akufo-Addo is keenly looking forward to attending the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and visiting China. He believes this visit will open a new chapter in the bilateral relationship between Ghana and China.
