The Chinese Embassy in Ghana Supports Ghana AIDS Commission to Hold World AIDS Day Celebration

On November 27, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana H.E. Shi Ting Wang met with H.E. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, the First Lady of the Republic of Ghana and donated to Ghana AIDS Commission on behalf of the Chinese Embassy. Mr. Steven Kyeremeh Atuahene, Acting Director General of Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC), Ms. Shirley Laryea, Director of the Office of the First Lady, Madam Mary Zhao, wife of Ambassador Wang as well as Miss Lou Danzhu, Director of the Political Section of the Embassy were present at the meeting.

Ambassador Wang conveyed to the First Lady H.E. Rebecca Akufo-Addo the cordial greetings and best wishes of H.E. Prof. Peng Liyuan, wife of H.E. President Xi Jinping. Ambassador Wang said that during the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) this year, H.E. Prof. Peng Liyuan joined hands with the First Ladies of

African member states and governments and launched the China-Africa HIV Advocacy Campaign. In order to implement the outcomes of the FOCAC Beijing Summit, The Chinese Embassy decided to provide a small amount of donation to Ghana AIDS Commission to hold World AIDS Day celebration. Ambassador Wang stressed that the Chinese government will continue to support African countries in their fight against HIV and AIDS and strive for a future free of AIDS at an early date!

H.E. Rebecca Akufo-Addo received the donation from the Chinese Embassy on behalf of the Ghanaian side. Mrs. Akufo-Addo said that the number of HIV-infected person in the world continues to rise. It is imperative to do a good job in fighting against HIV and AIDS. In combating HIV and AIDS, we need not only drug treatment but also popularizing the common sense of AIDS prevention and control through education. Mrs. Akufo-Addo stressed that the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) has achieved great success. The First Ladies of Africa and H.E. Prof. Peng Liyuan have developed cordial friendship and will work together to become a staunch force in the international campaign for combating HIV and AIDS. Ghana is grateful to China for its enormous support. The Office of the First Lady will work closely jointly with Ghana AIDS Commission to organize World AIDS Day celebration.
