Chinese Political Counselor Mr. Wang Sheng Attended the Launch of 2015 CHISAG Week Celebration

On 19October 2015, Chinese Students Association of University of Ghana (CHISAG) launched the 2015 CHISAG Week Celebration. Mr. Wang Sheng, Political Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Ghana, Prof. Nana AmaAmfo, Dean of the School of Languages of the University of Ghana, Dr. Mei Meilian, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana, Dr. Josephine Dzahene-Quarshie, Acting Ghanaian Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana, Mr. Demuyakor Sylvester, President of Chinese Students Association of the University of Ghana(CHISAG), attended and addressed the launching ceremony.

In his speech, Counselor Wang warmly congratulated on the launching of the 2015 CHISAG Week Celebration. He said, CHISAG has played a positive role in promoting Chinese language learning, spreading Chinese culture and facilitating people-to-people exchanges between China and Ghana, and the 2015 CHISAG Week Celebration will mark another milestone of the development of the esteemed Association. Counselor Wang talked about the significance of learning Chinese well to the students to develop their career, fulfil their dream and make due contribution to the national development of Ghana. He encouraged the students of the University of Ghana to treasure their time,study hard to learn Chinese well, and prepare themselves to make contribution to the socio-economic development of Ghana and the cause of China-Ghana friendship cause in the future.

Prof. Nana AmaAmfo, Dean of the School of Languages, Dr. Mei Meilian, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana, Dr. Josephine Dzahene-Quarshie, Acting Ghanaian Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana respectively emphasized the importance of learning Chinese in their speeches. Dean Amfo raised the idea of “no language, no society”, and encouraged the students to study hard and master as many languages as possible, strengthen their ability to communicate and coordinate, in order to make contribution to the social progress and development of Ghana.

Mr. Demuyakor Sylvester, President of Chinese Students Association of the University of Ghana (CHISAG) reviewed the history of CHISAG since its establishment in 2009. Growing out of nothing and expanding from small to large, CHISAG started with only 20 members but now boasts 300 memberships with 6 committees. It has successfully organized a series of activities and plays a vibrant role in every corner of the University of Ghana. Finally, he raised the slogan of the Association “Acquire the tongue and live your dream”, which deeply touched the hearts of the students present.

A seminar on the learning of modern languages was held after the launching ceremony. The participants talked freely about the importance and methods of learning Chinese as well as other mod ern languages.
